Sooke Neighbourhood: Sooke Village Core
The centre of Sooke is known as the Village Core
After crossing over the Sooke River Bridge and coming up the hill, you'll find yourself in the Sooke Village Core neighbourhood. The commercial "downtown" of Sooke is in this area, and the homes are a mix of old and new single family dwellings, duplexes, townhouses and one condominium complex. South of Sooke Road, the gentle slope down towards the harbour makes for some spectacular views of the harbour, the Olympic Mountains, and the strait of Juan de Fuca. Exciting future development of this area will completely change the face of our community!
The Core is compact and very walkable, with every amenity there to serve the residents of Sooke. You'll find two grocery stores, Shopper's Drug Mart, the BC Liquor Store, several gas stations, gyms, coffee shops, restaurants, and financial institutions within 10 minutes' walk from just about any home in the Sooke Village Core. Sooke Council, with funding from the provincial government has made a priority the construction of over 3km of new sidewalk in and around the Village to improve aesthetics and accessibilty.
If you like to get around without a car on public transit, this would be the most convenient neighbourhood in Sooke, as the main bus (#62) goes through the Core at least once an hour, and up to three times an hour at peak times.
